The 2025 varsity basketball season has been a historic one for Carrollton, with the team winning districts, regionals and advancing to states.
“I think this whole season was a highlight. We had so much fun throughout the whole year,” said Sela Travieso ‘26. “It was all so exciting, especially since we are a close group. We’ve all known each other for so long, and it feels like we are all just one big family now.”
The closeness of the team was instrumental to its success. “One of the biggest improvements I have seen in the team this year is their maturity,” said varsity basketball coach Ramos.
Travieso agreed. “This year our team grew a lot mentally. We all know that basketball-wise, we are good enough, but sometimes it’s hard to keep going if your shots aren’t going in, or it’s just a hard day. Being able to learn how to ignore that was really important.”
The seniors also helped make the season a special one. “The six seniors we had on the team made the season memorable, especially in the last few games,” coach Ramos said. “Some of them had been playing for six and some of them for four years. It was great to see their growth over their junior high and high school seasons.”
On Feb. 27, Carrollton played against Somerset Academy for the state championship. Although they gave it their all, they lost 62-46. However, coach Ramos already has plans to recover. “All we can really do to bounce back from our loss in the state championship tournament is to get back to work,” he said. “We accomplished something great this year, but the only way to get back to where we want to go is to continue to work.”
Despite the loss, players concentrated on the many achievements of the season.
Travieso is especially proud of how she was able to accomplish her own goals and lead the team. “Personally I just wanted to be a good leader and make sure that I did everything that I could control to be a good teammate,” she said. “As a team, we really wanted to make it to states, and we were able to do that. Being able to accomplish both of my goals…is very rewarding, and it’s something that I will never forget.”
