The Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots faced off in this year’s Super Bowl on Feb. 8. This was a historic game between two long-shot teams.
According to Forbes, 42 out of 50 states rooted for the Seahawks, while the Patriot’s fanbase was mostly geographical.
But at Carrollton, the division was more equal. According to a poll of 70 junior high students, 36.6% percent were rooting for the Patriots, 32.9% for the Seahawks and 28.6% were neutral.
“I rooted for the Seahawks because the Dolphins hate the Patriots,” said Carolina Moreno ‘30.
On the other hand, Upper School administrative assistant, Ms. Fernandez rooted for the Patriots because she is a Green Bay Packers fan, and the Seahawks go against the Packers in the National Football Conference (NFC). “I did not start the season rooting for the Patriots, but definitely when it was narrowed down after the NFC, I chose the Patriots,” she said.
In the end, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13. The Seahawks’ dominating defense ultimately determined the final outcome. On offense, their quarterback, Sam Darnold, managed plays effectively, and Jason Myers, their kicker, set a Super Bowl record with five field goals.
Despite their loss, the New England Patriots’ quarterback, Drake Maye demonstrated elite performance under pressure and quick decision making, which helped his team. Ms. Fernandez believes they will eventually be a more successful team, “but they need to grow…because they’re very young.”
As for the Seahawks, she thinks they “are going to be good for quite some time.”
