After Taylor’s successful beginning to her “Eras Tour,” in which her “1989,” “Reputation,” and “Speak Now,” albums were praised by her global fanbase, it seems that she has now entered into her “Lover” era.
Although it is not explicitly clear when Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift met, it is rumored that Kelce attended an Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in his NFL offseason last year. On a podcast with his brother, he shared that during a Swift Concert, he had wanted to give Taylor a friendship bracelet he’d made with his phone number beaded onto it, but he couldn’t give it to her as she wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone before or after her shows in order to save her voice. According to “Women’s Health,” he was “butthurt” that he didn’t get to meet Taylor. However, his failed encounter did not completely discourage him as he later began speaking publicly about his attempt.
Two short months later, dating rumors started after Swift was seen in the VIP box along with Kelce’s mom, cheering on his team, the Kansas City Chiefs. Fans have dubbed Swift the lucky charm due to the Chief’s winning streak and now questions have erupted between both NFL and Swift fans about a multitude of topics. These include: Who made whom famous? Will they actually last? Is Kelce going to be featured on her next album? How does he compare to her previous boyfriends? And most importantly, what does his mom think of her?
On October 22, Swift was spotted next to Patrick Mahomes’, the Chief’s quarterback’s wife, Brittany Mahomes, solidifying their friendship with a choreographed handshake after a touchdown against the Los Angeles Chargers. Swift also appeared to be wearing a friendship bracelet with Kelce’s jersey number, 87, which some believe is a nod to their endgame. If it was an intentional reference to the lyrics of “Mary’s Song,” from her debut album, “Taylor Swift,” where she sings, “I’ll be 87 you’ll be 89,” she nailed it.
Swift is known for leaving secret messages within her carefully-crafted song lyrics, but her past boyfriends are no secret. After listening to her sing about Jake Gyllenhaal, Joe Jonas, and John Mayer in “Red,” “Taylor Swift,” and “Folklore,” it is clear that Kelce is the exact opposite. Deep background checks on the football player and intense Google searches have proven to Swifties that Kelce tops them all.
And now they are more open about their relationship. The lovebirds were seen holding hands as they left the Saturday Night Live After Party in New York City. After magnifying a picture of them walking out of the party, people noticed a red mark imprinted on Kelce’s lips. It seems that Swift has confirmed their relationship.
More recently, during Swift’s Era’s Tour in Argentina, Kelce was seen in the stands beside Swift’s father when he received an onstage shoutout during her song, “Karma.” She sang “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me” instead of the usual “Karma is the guy on the screen.” This drew an immediate reaction from the crowd. Then, as she left the show, Swift hopped off stage and ran into Kelce’s arms and kissed him. According to the Hindustan Times, Kelce’s friends are also optimistic for the couple and see an “endgame” for him and Swift.
