Tennis players are no strangers to rivalries, but now, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic are being overrun by the next generation of tennis. This is clear from the performances of rising stars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz this year. But spectators should keep in mind the following questions: What are these new players’ strengths and weaknesses, and how do these shape them as individual athletes?
Sinner, 24, is currently the most talked about Italian tennis player. He has won major titles like the Australian Open and Wimbledon to name a few. In 2025, Sinner won 80% of his matches on hard court, 71% on clay, and 69% on grass. Across all surfaces, he won 77% of his matches.
Alcaraz, 22, plays for Spain. Like Sinner, he has won many titles in 2025, including the French Open and the US Open. This past year, Alcaraz’s accomplishemnts on courts varied as well, depending on the type of surface. He won 77% of his matches on hard court, 81% on clay, and 88% on grass. Alcaraz has taken the global tennis ranking’s number one spot for male players in 2025, but with both Alcaraz’s and Sinner’s successes this year on all types of surfaces, it is safe to say that the tennis community is excitedly anticipating the 2026 season.
