Dubai chocolate is a type of chocolate bar filled with pistachio cream, tahini, and crunchy pieces of phyllo dough, called kataifi, which went viral in late 2023. It was originally named the “Can’t Get Knafeh of It” bar by FIX Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai, UAE.
Though delicious, Dubai chocolate is very pricey, so that’s why we decided to make it ourselves at home. We followed recipes from Feel Good Foodie and The Kitchn.
First, we took four bars of chocolate and broke it into small squares. We then placed it in a bowl and into the microwave. We microwaved the chocolate for two one-minute intervals. Afterwards, we mixed the chocolate so that it was all fully melted. Overall, this part was super simple. Our advice: You just have to make sure you have enough chocolate.
After that, we poured the melted chocolate into molds and let it set in the freezer for 20 minutes. Note: Don’t forget to make sure to spread the melted chocolate all over the molds, especially the edges.
While the chocolate was setting in the freezer, we placed about two tablespoons of butter and kadayif (or kataifi) into a pan to toast it. This part was a little more difficult because we had to adjust the amount of butter we mixed in to help it brown. At first, it took a long time, but once we got the hang of it, we were able to move faster.
When it was toasted, we added pistachio butter and mixed it in. The pistachio butter was very thick, so it took a minute or two to get it to cooperate. After that, it was easy and extremely satisfying. The delicious smell and crunch caused this to be our favorite step.
Then, we spread the kadayif mix on top of the frozen chocolate. Be careful: It’s very important to spread the kadayif mix everywhere so that you can taste it in each bite. After we added a thick layer of pistachio-kadayif mix to the mold, we covered it with the rest of our chocolate. We placed the filled mold into the fridge to set for two hours. This step was very fun and super easy.
The process of making this was fairly easy taking a little less than an hour. We would definitely recommend this fun recipe and give it an eight out of 10 for its overall easy process with minimal difficulties regarding the toasting of the katayif.
Now, behold: the taste, the crunch, the smell, of the precious Dubai chocolate made by yours truly. We give this chocolate a five out of five for its beyond delicious taste. It was thick, smooth, crunchy, and filled with pistachio and katayif. Rich and simply so tasty, this chocolate bar is Mrs. Consuegra approved. We think you can’t go better than this homemade Dubai chocolate bar, and it is 100 percent worth the effort and wait.
