The Grammys are a very exciting time, but this year, there was a lot of controversy surrounding Beyonce winning album of the year for “Cowboy Carter.”
Some people thought that other albums like “Short n’ Sweet“ by Sabrina Carpenter or “Brat“ by Charli XCX deserved to win.
“Beyonce did not deserve to get the album of the year award,” said Carolina Moreno ‘30.
Anabella Badell-Riviere ’30 agreed. “Billie Eilish worked very hard for her album and so did Sabrina Carpenter. I don’t think [Beyonce] was the right choice for this award when there were all these artists that were way more listened to.”
Many of the seventh graders had similar opinions. Cowboy Carter included many covers like Jolene by Dolly Parton and Blackbird by the Beatles. “They weren’t even her own songs,” Moreno said.
Many connected Beyonce’s Grammy win to conspiracy theories. One of these theories is that she is connected to P. Diddy, the former rapper, who has been convicted for several crimes. Another is that people and celebrities thank Beyonce after receiving awards. Some celebrities like Adele, for example, have done this countless times. It is rumored that Beyonce does something bad to the celebrities that cross her. It is also rumored that she has something to do with Michael Jackson’s death, but there isn’t enough evidence to support that idea.
Some Carrollton students have even gone so far as to say that Beyonce might have bribed the Grammy judges. “Beyonce and her family did not look surprised. If that was my mom, I would be jumping up and down,” said Liana Leon ‘30.
Moreno noticed the same thing. “It was almost like Jay Z knew it was going to happen,” she said
One of the reasons people believe in these theories is that she has won and been nominated for Grammys so many times with 99 nominations and 35 wins. However, despite all of the conspiracies and complaints about her win this year, she has proven to be an unstoppable force in the music industry.
