“Sunkissed” by Aitana Bailon 26’ is a dreamy song about summer romance. It reflects the warmth and innocence of young love. The lyrics transport listeners to beach days, sunsets, and long drives down the coast. These are such simple moments and yet they are filled with such deep emotion.
“When I wrote ‘Sunkissed,’ I didn’t really know what I wanted it to be about at first and mainly focused on the melody and the actual sound of the song,” said Bailon. “Later on, when writing the lyrics, I was spending a lot of time on the beach, and I guess I just sort of channeled that into the lyrics.” This simple inspiration is what gives the song such an authentic feel as we see it through her own experiences, truly embodying her memories and feelings.
I enjoyed how the imagery of pink skies, sun-kissed days, and shared secrets allows the song to truly represent a young summer love story. Bailon’s voice, full of joy and vulnerability, allowed me as a listener to relate and feel a connection to lyrics like “when I’m with you, I shine.” The repeating theme of running to “another distant shore” captures the desire to spend every moment with someone you love.
Musically, the song is calming yet upbeat, complementing the story the lyrics create. In the chorus, the repetition of, “Oh you’re with me and I couldn’t ask for more,” shows the simplicity, yet depth of how it feels to be loved.
Overall, “Sunkissed” is a heartfelt and relatable song that anyone who has ever felt loved can resonate with.
Bailon is thriving as a young songwriter, showcasing her abilities to turn her own personal experience into something many can relate to. I enjoyed listening to this song, and I think it truly encapsulates the beauty of finding joy in the little moments with the people you love.
