Hermeline Loquet is from Marmoutiers, Tours, France. She is staying with Julia Kleszczewski ’27.
The following interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.
Is this your first time in the U.S.?
Yes.
What’s your experience here in the U.S. been like?
It’s very beautiful and very big. We have no big cities in France, so, it’s very beautiful.
How has it been being away from family?
It’s difficult. I call my family every day, and I am a little sad.
Why did you decide to do the exchange program?
Because I don’t know the U.S., and I love to experience new culture.
What did you want to gain from this experience?
I want to learn more English, and to be more talkative with everyone because I’m a little shy.
What do you think about Carrollton?
It’s a big school, and it’s all girls. In my school we have boys, so it’s very strange.
What is different between Carrollton and your school?
In Carrollton there are many pupils, and in my school we don’t change classes. I have class between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., so it’s really different.
What are some similarities between Carrollton and your school?
We have the same classes: English, French.
What has surprised you the most about this experience?
Your city is very, very big, and there are only girls in this school. In France, they don’t have schools with only girls or only boys. It’s very strange.
What’s something that makes you feel like home while you’re away?
The landscape is like France, I think. And Julia’s father speaks French.
What have you loved about this experience?
I love to learn about a new culture and discover the U.S. because I’ve never been to the U.S. before.
What have you learned?
I’ve learned more English expressions and what U.S. people love.
