Honoring Spanish Heritage

“Coming from a non-Latin background, Spanish Heritage Month (El mes de la Herencia Española) helps me appreciate a different culture and exposes me to things besides the language. We get to learn about traditions, current news and understand our classmates’ backgrounds and lifestyles better,” said Ainsley Topping ‘21.

Spanish Heritage Month is internationally recognized from September 15th to October 15th. The Upper School community celebrates the month by hosting events such as the “Santa Dulce Churros” sale and preparing presentations like “What is your favorite word in Spanish” by the IB Literature SL students. The performing arts teacher Mrs. Rodriguez’s favorite Spanish word is “Bruja,” but not because of its meaning, but because of its sound. “El mes de la Herencia Española” enlightens the Carrollton community about the importance of speaking Spanish and the beauty of its customs and traditions.
